Chamonix
Have just climbed my last UP steps for the entire trip. This killer day began at 0800 and as I write sitting at 250 metres on the deck at Chalet Lac Blanc waiting for a glass of vin blanc our 'prize'. 'Monster' Blanc is in front of us lake below. I have never done a harder day's work in my life. We climbed up more than 1000 metres on everything from gravel to sheer rock & then iron embedded in rock face. It was a 10 hour trek and I am utterly exhausted and everything hurts. The 2 hour walk down was just awful - same terrain as going up and then steep tracks of really loose shale. Horrible except at all times Mt Blanc was in front of looking beautiful and it was a gorgeous day. Was in bed at 8! However it is all down hill from here - nearly there!
End in sight - after yesterday - easily the longest/hardest/worst day of my life awoke early, everything still hurts! Our finish line beckons below in Chamonix but we have a three hour trek to get there. Almost done - let the celebrations begin!
