Mr Landsberg holding his one year Poesia boarding pass
Such people are often the subject of urban myths however, I can report that Barry & I recently met, and dined with, Mr. Egon Landsberg, who is actually a permanent cruise passenger. Egon, of Swiss heritage but a lifetime resident of Canada, is 94. In assessing suitable living arrangements for this stage of his life, he evaluated nursing homes - many of them - and even more cruise liners, and quickly came to conclusion that a permanent home on the waves, was by far the most attractive option. Egon's home for the past 12 months has been MSC's Poesia which he is about to leave for several weeks - "to go back to Canada to attend to my tax and other matters", he says. He has then carefully selected next year's itineraries which he will enjoy - one after the other, after the other!!! A talented pianist, Egon can often be found entertaining guests on sea days as he tinkles the ivories in the atrium. Proudly wearing his MSC crew badge, and also wearing his years extraordinarily well, most guests on board would just assume him to be entertainment staff. On shore days, he takes to the streets in the various ports of call, on his nifty motorised scooter.
